There’s a new gate opening, and fans are being led through by a familiar face.
On Wednesday, Amazon MGM Studios announced that it has given the green light to an original new Stargate series led by Martin Gero. The former screenwriter and co-executive producer of Stargate: Atlantis is the creator and executive producer for the new series, which will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
“Twenty years ago, my first real job in television was as a Story Editor on Stargate: Atlantis. I spent five years at the franchise working across all three series, Stargate taught me everything about making television — it’s written into my DNA,” Gero said in a statement.

Gero shared his gratitude to Amazon MGM Studios for having “entrusted” him with the task of “guiding this incredible franchise into its next phase.”
“For those who’ve kept the gate active through conventions, rewatches, and unwavering faith — this one’s for you,” he added. “And for those that are new to our world — I promise you’re in for something extraordinary.”
The iconic science-fiction franchise first launched with the titular 1994 film, which led to multiple hit television series and a passionate global audience for over 30 years. Fans have praised the franchise for its blend of adventurous exploration, mythology, and grounded scientific concepts that have made Stargate one of the most enduring brands in genre entertainment.
Gero will also serve as the new series’ showrunner, alongside executive producers Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters); Dean Devlin (Stargate, Independence Day); and Roland Emmerich (Stargate, Moonfall). Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi, longtime creative leaders within the Stargate universe, will serve as consulting producers.

Production details and casting for the new series will be announced at a later date.
