Last week, the teachers on ABC’s comedy hit Abbott Elementary ventured off campus to take in a Philadelphia Phillies game. The episode, titled Ballgame, which was filmed during the Aug. 28 game between the Atlanta Braves and the Phillies, scored a home run when it featured Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber’s electrifying four-home-run game. Schwarber proved his comedy chops as he made his acting debut on the episode.
On this week’s Abbott episode, called Game Night, airing on Wednesday, Oct. 22, the teachers gather for a different type of game when Gregory (Tyler James Williams) hosts game night.
The episode begins with Janine (show creator Quinta Brunson) entering the teacher’s lounge saying, “My water broke.” When principal Ava (Janelle James) dryly states, “Told y’all she pregnant,” Janine is quick to clarify the water in her apartment isn’t working, which means she can’t host the evening’s game night.
Jacob (Chris Perfetti) jumps in with an offer to host and is quickly shut down by Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter). Reluctantly, Gregory breaks his “no friendship in the home” rule and offers to take on game night hosting duties. Janine has a strong reaction to Gregory’s offer to host, teasing another hilarious night of the mockumentary-style comedy.

Fans React To Seeing Gregory’s Apartment
Gregory’s apartment has been a source of fodder in previous Abbott Elementary episodes, but Game Night is the first episode viewers actually get a peek at how the perfectionist really lives. Judging by Janine’s reaction to Gregory’s offer to host, and her comment that his apartment belongs in Architectural Digest, fans have a sense that Gregory’s apartment might not be the ideal spot for a party.
Fans shared theories on the Abbott Elementary official Instagram account’s teaser of Wednesday’s show.
“We get to see Gregory’s apartment… yaaaay,” shared one excited fan. Another added, “Lord, I can see Gregory now. Everything finna be bubble wrapped.”
Another fan shared an entirely different theory, writing, “Are we ramping up for a Janine and Gregory move in together arc??”
“I just know Gregory is going to regret every minute of this game night,” shared another fan of the show.
Season 5 of Abbott Elementary has already delivered one hilarious episode after the next and shows no signs of slowing down this season. Known for its quick, clever jokes coupled with heartfelt moments, the show is a critic’s darling and ratings winner. Often reviewed as “best in class,” Brunson’s take on her real experiences growing up in the Philadelphia public school system continues to be a fan favorite. In Episode 4, Abbott’s talented writers expertly build off of Kyle Schwarber’s historic baseball game, while giving fans the added bonus of finally getting to see Gregory’s apartment.
Game Night airs Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 8:30 p.m. on ABC.
