Newness abounds at the 2026 Actor Awards on Sunday night at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles — starting with that name. Formerly the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the name change was announced in November to both align with the name of the event’s trophy — “The Actor” — while also reflecting that SAG is far from alone. Since 2012 the 160,000-strong labor union is SAG-AFTRA, the latter representing the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. Technically the proper full name of the rebranded event is “The Actor Awards Presented by SAG-AFTRA,” but that surely will prove to be too much of a mouthful for many.
