Adam Sandler says he’s grateful to have Jackie Sandler, his wife of 22 years, by his side.
“We’re very close. We like to talk, like to laugh, like to have fun, and like to think about things and take care of our kids,” Adam, 59, told People in an interview published on Saturday, November 15.
He added, “I’m just more thankful than I’ve ever been. Happy I got to do this life, happy [about] all the people who’ve been with me during all this stuff, and helped me out, and [it’s] just been a phenomenal time. My whole family’s always been great to me. My wife and I talk about stuff, and what to do, and what to do next, and it’s just been a very cool life.”
Adam met Jackie, 51, on the set of his 1999 comedy Big Daddy, in which the actress played a waitress. The pair married in 2003 and later welcomed daughters Sadie, 19, and Sunny, 17, both of whom have appeared in Adam’s movies alongside Jackie.
The family appeared together in 2023’s You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah as well as this year’s Happy Gilmore 2.
“It’s always been our thing to work with our friends and family,” Sandler explained to USA Today earlier this year. “It’s cool to see [my kids] getting better. They work hard and they go to school for it, and they love it. So, yeah, I’m just proud. Couldn’t love them more.”
Later that month, he confessed feeling “so much relief” over his daughters’ success following in his footsteps.
“Oh, my god, you’re just relieved,” she said. “Once they do it well, nothing feels better as a parent. It must be like when you’re the parents of a baseball player and you’re at the game and they get a hit. You just go, ‘Thank God.’”
Sunny stars in the upcoming Netflix comedy-drama Don’t Say Good Luck, which is written by Laura Hankin and tells the story of a teen girl preparing to play the lead role in her high school musical while coping with her mother’s illness. Melanie Lynskey, Max Greenfield and Bebe Neuwirth round out the cast.
As for Adam, he can currently be seen opposite George Clooney in the film Jay Kelly.
“The most important line to me in the movie, I say to George’s character, ‘Jay, you’re Jay Kelly, but I’m Jay Kelly too.’ I know the people who work with me feel the same,” Sandler exclusively told Us Weekly at the film’s AFI Fest premiere in New York City last month. “It’s like, what I’m going after, they’re helping me go after, and they’re trying to block anything that’s getting in the way of that and give ideas to help me do the best I can do.”
Adam plays Ron Suzenick, the longtime friend and manager of Clooney’s title character, an A-list actor going through an existential crisis.
Speaking with Us, Sandler recalled that Jay Kelly director Noah Baumbach “called me like a year before I got the script. He said he’s had an idea and he’s going to write it and I’m in it. And then I got to read the script, get affected by it emotionally and say, ‘Thanks for doing all the work and now I got to make sure I don’t let you down.’”
“It’s a good feeling,” he added.
