Al Pacino is one of Hollywood’s most famous and respected stars. Rising to prominence in the early 1970s, Pacino became a household name with his portrayal of Michael Corleone in The Godfather trilogy.
He went on to star in critically acclaimed films such as Scarface, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Heat.

Long before his explosive role as Tony Montana in Scarface, Pacino opened up about it during a candid 1979 interview with Playboy. At the time, he was already a major star, having led a string of acclaimed films throughout the 1970s.
He went on to reveal his fondness for comedic filmmakers like Mel Brooks and Woody Allen.
In the interview, he also expressed his admiration for Dick Van Dyke and singled out George C. Scott as perhaps the greatest contemporary actor in America at the time.
He said, “Mel Brooks will have these flashes in his films; you laugh for hours afterward. I wonder how he is, what he’s like. The same with Woody; I go to see all of his films”. The talk moves on to actors, and Pacino starts naming a few he really looks up to, saying, “Dick Van Dyke is also one of my favorites.” He also named George C. Scott as the best actor in contemporary America.
Asked about who he looks up to in the business, Pacino said, “Gary Cooper was kind of a phenomenon—his ability to take something and elevate it, give it such dignity.
He continued, “One of the great presences. Charles Laughton was my favourite. Jack Nicholson has that kind of persona; he’s also a fine actor. [Robert] Mitchum’s great. Lee Marvin, too. These guys are terrific actors”.
Gary Cooper has stood alongside legends like John Wayne, James Stewart, and Clint Eastwood. He starred in classic films such as High Noon, Unconquered, and Man of the West.
Throughout his career, he won two Academy Awards and even caught the attention of U.S. Presidents Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Bill Clinton — all of whom named High Noon (1952) as their favorite film.
Cooper, who was married to fellow actor Veronica Balfe, tragically died on 13 May 1961.
