Awards season is right around the corner, and to kick things off early, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) gathered the crème de la crème of Hollywood at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in California on Sunday evening for the 16th annual Governors Awards.
Each year, the Academy hosts the Governors Awards as a way to recognize lifetime achievement in the entertainment industry, and the prizes are given a special dedication when the Oscars take place the following March.
For 2025, the ceremony included the presentation of the Academy Honorary Award to Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise and Wynn Thomas, while the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award was bestowed upon Dolly Parton.
These honorees weren’t the only ones in attendance, though. The Governors Awards always turn out to be quite the starry event, and typically, this is just the first of many appearances we get from the actors, directors, producers, and more behind some of the year’s buzziest flicks.
On the 2025 carpet, attendees included Harper’s Bazaar’s November 2025 cover star Cynthia Erivo, as well as other major figures like: Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez, Natalie Portman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Octavia Spencer, Dakota Johnson, Queen Latifah, and more. Not to mention, the evening also included a special performance from Andra Day.
