EXCLUSIVE: Alloy Entertainment, the production company behind series such as You, Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars, and films including You Are SO Not Coming to My Bat Mitzvah and Purple Hearts, has undergone a reorganization of its New York-based book division. Longtime executives Josh Bank, Lanie Davis and Joelle Hobeika all have new roles in the shuffle, Leslie Morgenstein, Alloy Entertainment founder and chief creative officer announced Thursday.
Bank, a 27-year company veteran, is segueing from, President, East Coast to senior creative advisor, a more creative role where he will focus on developing IP, among other responsibilities. In his tenure with the company, he has overseen the creation of the company’s book properties, leading the conceptualization, development and editorial execution of more than 80 New York Times bestsellers. Before landing at Alloy, he worked for CCI, a boutique advertising firm in Soho, specializing in positioning work for Fortune 500 companies such as Sony, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and MasterCard.
Davis, who has been with Alloy for almost two decades, is now senior vice president and co-editorial director. She works on all categories of children’s and adult books, with an emphasis on mystery, thriller and suspense, as well as heartfelt, humorous series in the middle grade space. Notable authors she works with include New York Times and USA Today bestsellers Caroline Kepnes, Sara Shepard, and Sloan Harlow.
Hobeika, who is also approaching the 20-year mark, is now senior vice president and co-editorial director. She pursues upmarket fiction for adults and YA properties, focusing on book club fiction as well as mystery, thriller, and suspense. Notable authors she works with include New York Times and USA Today bestsellers Emiko Jean, Katharine McGee, and Nicola Yoon.
“Josh, Joelle, and Lanie have done a remarkable job building our book business in the YA and adult markets. With these changes we are well-positioned for a future slate of bestselling books that will no doubt become our next hit shows and movies,” Morgenstein said.
Alloy’s book division develops on average 20 books per year, with more than 100 Alloy titles hitting the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists, including The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins, The Return of Ellie Black by Emiko Jean, American Royals by Katharine McGee, and Caroline Kepnes’ You, on which the Netflix series is based.
