Amanda Seyfried has confirmed that a third Mamma Mia! movie is on the way.
The Emmy Winner, speaking to Deadline at the Toronto International Film Festival, was asked directly if a third instalment was on the way.
“Yes, it is,” she replied, “I think.”

The 39-year-old said she and the cast, including Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, have openly spoken about the third film as a way of “getting support” for the movie.
“We all said ‘yeah, definitely (it’s happening)’, it’s our way of marketing,” she said.
“Movies like that, big movies like that, are all about studio timing.”
The actress recalled that the studio opted to film Mamma Mia 2 over Wicked in 2018.

“(The studio) could only do one big movie at the time, and we slotted into that… it’s about silly things like that.”
Wicked came out years later in 2024, with stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
The creator and producer of Mamma Mia! Judy Craymer also confirmed that there is a script for the third movie, but said it will “happen when it happens” while also speaking to Deadline earlier this year.
“We know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen,” she told the outlet in May.

There has been chatter about the third movie since the sequel came out. There was confirmation in 2020 that a third film was in the early stages of production, with cast members promising updates on the film in 2023 and 2024.
The 2008 film Mamma Mia! was a massive hit, smashing box office records at the time and becoming a pop culture phenomenon.

The second film, Mamma Mia! Here we go again, released in 2018, was also a big hit, although it didn’t have the same impact on pop culture that the first one did.
There is no official timeline or release date for the third movie.
