AMC Theatres is making a major change that will allow customers more options for acquiring movie tickets.
ClassPass is a subscription service that offers discounted fitness classes that can be purchased with ClassPass points. Now, it sounds like ClassPass is looking to expand into the world of entertainment.
Beginning on Tuesday, ClassPass members will be able to use their credits for movie tickets at AMC Theatres. Using the ClassPass app, members can book a standard 2D movie ticket at participating AMC locations.
For now, the new offer will only apply in a few states – California, Florida, Texas and Arizona – but the company has plans to expand the offering in the future.
“Adding AMC Theatres to ClassPass reflects our commitment to offering the highest quality lifestyle and wellness experiences to our members,” said Fritz Lanman, CEO of Playlist, according to Variety. “Every consumer defines wellness differently, and our mission is to provide a broad range of options that meet those needs. We’re building a platform that not only gives people flexible access to the experiences they love, but also serves as a marketplace solution for underutilized inventory, from yoga mats to movie tickets.”
It’s not clear how many credits are needed to go to the movies, though ClassPass will offer bundles that include popcorn and drinks.
This announcement comes as AMC Theatres has announced that it will cut down on its pre-show marketing, which will come as a welcome change for customers.
“It’s not that there’s been a change of heart…but we also know that some other consumers think the package has gone too long, and we’re trying to find a happy medium,” AMC Theatres’ CEO Adam Aron said this week.
Clearly, AMC is doing what it can to try to bring in more customers. We’ll have to see how it works out.
