Amy Schumer, Donald Trump To Nicki Minaj: Celebrities Banned From Met Gala 2026

1. Rachel Zoe
Rachel Zoe was once rumoured to be quietly dropped from the Met Gala guest list after a bold statement she made years ago. In a chat with The New York Times, she said, “Anna Wintour is one of my heroes, but they say that I’m more influential. As great as it is, Vogue won’t change a designer’s business. But if an unknown brand is worn by a certain person in a tabloid, it will be the biggest designer within a week.” The comment goes all the way back to 2007, and she did return to the Met in 2012, so clearly—things weren’t completely shut.

2. Donald Trump
Donald Trump is the only name that’s been officially confirmed as banned. Anna Wintour herself said in a 2017 interview with James Corden that he’s someone she would never invite again. He had attended the gala several times earlier but hasn’t been seen there since 2012.

3. Amy Schumer
Amy Schumer made it very clear the Met Gala isn’t her thing. In a 2016 interview with Howard Stern, she said, “It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation,” and added, “I don’t like the farce…We’re dressed up like a bunch of fucking assholes. I don’t like it. I have no interest in fashion…I don’t care.” Not officially banned, but safe to say she’s not lining up for an invite.

Tim Gunn has openly said he was banned—and the reason is pretty wild. Speaking on Fashion Police in 2016, he said, “It is very true. It is a crazy story, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s a very matter-of-fact story,” and then explained what happened: “I was asked what is the most unforgettable thing I’ve ever seen in fashion and I said, ‘It’s easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards—two big hulking men—from a fashion show.’ All hell broke loose. It was insane. We’ve had an open war ever since.”

5. Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t really sugarcoat her Met Gala experience. Back in 2013, during an interview on the Kyle and Jackie O Show (via Us Weekly), she said, “it sucked” and “it seems like it’s the best thing in the world…You always think, Oh my god, it’s gonna be so glamorous and amazing and you’re going to see all these people, and then you get there and it’s so hot and it’s so crowded and everyone’s pushing you. I think we’re all a bit old to dress up punk.”

Zayn Malik did make an appearance at the Met Gala in 2016 with then-girlfriend Gigi Hadid, but that seems to have been a one-time thing for him. Speaking to GQ in 2018, he made it clear he’s not keen on going back, saying, “Now it’s not something I would go to,” and added, “I’d rather be sitting at my house doing something productive than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet…to do the self-indulgent ‘look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”

Lili Reinhart attended the Met Gala in 2022, but she has since hinted that her invite might not come again. The actor had publicly criticised Kim Kardashian’s rapid weight loss to fit into a dress once worn by Marilyn Monroe for John F. Kennedy’s 45th birthday. Later, in an interview with W Magazine, she reflected on the night, saying it “was fun, but after going again this year, I don’t think I’ll be invited back…I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress.”

8. Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj is also rumoured to be off the 2026 Met Gala list. Back in February, Naughty But Nice’s Rob Shuter reported that she may have been “shut out” following a series of politically charged remarks. An insider was quoted as saying, “Nicki’s invitations didn’t just slow down, they vanished. Hollywood stopped returning her calls. This isn’t subtle anymore. She’s been shut out.
