Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is likely to feel even more bitter about his exile to Sandringham House after he was reportedly threatened near his new residence, an expert has claimed. On Wednesday evening, a man is believed to have approached Mountbatten-Windsor’s vehicle within a few metres, in an intimidating manner. The former Duke of York was reportedly walking his dogs when the incident allegedly took place in Wolferton, near his Marsh Farm residence, shortly after 7:30pm.
The 39-year-old Alex Jenkinson appeared at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday. He pleaded not guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with the intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence against the ex-prince.
Andrew’s accommodation is paid for privately by his brother, the King, following the revelation of the former prince’s connection to the late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told the Mirror that she thinks Andrew will use this alleged incident to demand more security funded by his brother.
She added: “He will probably feel even more resentful that he has been banished to the more public surroundings of Sandringham.
“This will obviously make Andrew more nervous about going out, but he does always appear to have at least one bodyguard with him — and the fact is, he escaped without harm. But this has proved that Mountbatten-Windsor is a target and needs security. And I don’t think he will let the King forget it.”
Jennie added: “This must have been a frightening experience which will have shocked Andrew and the rest of his family. I don’t think we should wish this on anyone.
“One of the biggest dangers to any member of the Royal Family has always been the lone protester or stalker – the late Queen at Trooping, Charles and a gunman in Australia, Anne and the attempted kidnap.
“I imagine there may have been some communication, if not a direct conversation, between Charles and Andrew, and I can picture his other siblings picking up the phone to check that he’s ok. He is, after all, still their brother.”
It follows Andrew’s arrest in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office, for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Epstein while serving as the UK’s trade envoy. He has vehemently denied any wrongdoing over his Epstein links.
