It’s been some time since Andrew hung up the boots of Rick Grimes – last seen leading his own miniseries from The Walking Dead spinoff titled The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. But that may be changing! The actor recently teased his possible return to the zombie-infested world, and fans are hoping it happens sooner rather than later.
In conversation with Laura on her show Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, while discussing his new play, The Lady From the Sea, Andrew was asked about his return to the franchise. Though he tried to dodge the question, LincoIn eventually admitted, “There’s a conversation happening right now.”
Obviously, for now, there really is no telling how the comeback will be executed. Since his departure from The Walking Dead Season 9, much has happened. The spinoff – Dead City and Daryl Dixon – have explored the universe extensively. The One Who Lives also delved into his supposed death and then reunion with Michonne. Now the question is: where does Rick Grimes fit into this larger canvas?
Some whispers suggest a possible Season 12 for The Walking Dead; others hint at expanding The One Who Lives to Season 2. There are even rumors about a fourth and final season for Daryl Dixon that could reunite Grimes’ other friends from the universe. In fact, there was once talk of a trilogy centred on Rick Grime – which, alas, didn’t materialize.
As it stands, there are many ways to bring him back, and one thing is certain: whatever form Grimes’ comeback takes, it will be loved by fans.
