The disgraced Andrew Mountbatten Windsor is reportedly spending his last weeks at the 30-room Royal Lodge alone and “ranting to himself”. The former Duke of York, 65, who currently lives with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, in Windsor, rarely goes out and spends much of his time “padding around the lodge and ranting and muttering,” according to insiders.
Sources have said that the pair sleep at opposite ends of the Royal Lodge – where they have lived since 2003 – coming together only for meals. Meanwhile, Fergie, 66, spends evenings in a purpose-built bar – dubbed The Doghouse, behind the property – where she “pours out her heart to staff” and friends. It has also been reported that the pair have discussed how they fear for their safety due to Andrew’s links to the late paedophile, Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew had his titles removed by King Charles, his brother, last month.
As well as sharing her concerns with Andrew, Fergie is also “leaning on” loyal staff for support, even asking them to stay late at the Lodge to keep her company, according to The Sun. Her older sister, Jane, has also been over from Australia, to give her moral support.
“They have been heard having some pretty intense conversations about what is going on,” the insider said. “Sarah, in particular, is panicking about what comes next and she is not in a good place.
“She fears being caught in the crosshairs and is worried about herself and her and Andrew’s daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie.”
She also worries about “dark forces” potentially targeting Andrew over him being at the centre of the Epstein scandal: “It is probably far-fetched but she is s***-scared and massively on edge,” they said.
While they appear to be living separate lives, the pair are united over the fact they want to shield their daughters “as much as possible from what is going on”.
This comes as Andrew was told earlier this week by US Congressmen to appear before them to explain his friendship with Epstein. Robert Garcia, the most senior Democratic member of the US congressional panel, said: “Rich and powerful men have evaded justice for far too long.
“Now, former Prince Andrew has the opportunity to come clean and provide justice for the survivors. Oversight Democrats will not stop fighting for accountability and transparency for survivors of Epstein and his gang of co-conspirators.”
It has also been revealed that the former prince has high demands for his new home after he moves out of Royal Lodge, including wanting a cook, housekeeper, gardener, and even a butler.
