Andrew Mountbatten Windsor is allegedly “terrified” to face the US Congress after the latest wave of humiliation, a royal expert has claimed. The disgraced brother of King Charles, who saw all his titles and honours axed by the King, has now been asked to appear before the House Oversight Committee for a “transcribed interview” in connection with his “long-standing friendship” with the convicted paedophile, Jeffrey Epstein.
In the letter, sent to the former prince on Thursday, the US politicians said their committee had identified “financial records containing notations such as ‘massage for Andrew’ that raise serious questions”. The letter was co-signed by 16 Democratic committee members. It requested a response by November 20.
It comes just days after Andrew agreed to leave his home, Royal Lodge, following the furore, despite having a private tenancy agreement for it with the Crown Estate.
Now, royal expert Phil Dampier said that the letter is yet another “embarrassment” for the Royal Family, who want to move on from Andrew’s scandal.
He also claimed that the former prince is “terrified” to sit for an interview with the committee for one reason.
He told The Sun: “Just when you think it can’t get any worse for Prince Andrew, it seemingly does.
“He’s had his title stripped away from him by the King, and now he’s got this summons from a congressional committee in the States.
“I don’t think he’s actually been ordered or can be compelled to go to this committee. I certainly don’t think it’s likely that he’s going to travel to the United States.”
He added: “I think that’s about, as likely as me flying to the moon, to be honest. I know that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, as he now is, is terrified that if he goes abroad, he might be arrested and extradited to the States.”
Andrew has tainted the reputation of the royal family through his association with Epstein and, for many years, has been dogged by allegations that he sexually abused Virginia Giuffre after she was trafficked by the financier.
He has strenuously denied the allegations.
Andrew will move to the King’s private Sandringham estate in Norfolk sometime in the new year as he begins his internal exile.
