SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Over fifty people gathered at the Betty Strong Encounter Center to watch some exciting short films.
This year marked the 6th year for the Siouxland Inspirational and Historic Film Festival. While the event was in a different and smaller room than previous years that didn’t stop people from showing up.
Folks were excited to watch five short films from local and non-local filmmakers, ranging from a comedy about an AI microwave to a bittersweet love story post Korean War.
One local filmmaker says having this film festival right here in Sioux City allows him and others to share their creativity with others easily.
“This was just an opportunity to finally be creative, that’s the joy of of being in this club. I’m really glad, because this is a competitive industry. If Tom’s Film Festival wasn’t around, I probably wouldn’t have been able to experience this. I mean, it’s kind of amazing how much draw it has,” said John Murphy, the co-director of the short film “Zoe Versus AI Microwave”.
Officials with the film festival say they hope everyone left either this year’s event with a smile and an appreciation for the art.
“Well, we hope they’re inspired by our film festival, learn a little history, have a little fun,” said Tom Schoening, with the Siouxland Inspirational and Historic Film Festival.
Tom says he looks forward to folks coming out again next year, and encourages more people to submit their own short film.
