Head nurse Carla Espinosa was one of the best characters on “Scrubs,” a series filled with good characters.
Now Judy Reyes, who played Carla, is officially coming back for the “Scrubs” revival.
“So thrilled to get back together with my Scrubs family!!” Reyes shared on Instagram Tuesday in response to a Deadline report about her signing on for the series.
Reyes is set to return as Carla in a recurring guest star capacity, joining fellow original “Scrubs” stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke.

The “Scrubs” revival will air on ABC, the same network where Reyes currently appears in the crime drama “High Potential” with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Kaitlin Olson. Reyes plays Lt. Selena Soto with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes unit in that show, which is heading into its second season this month.
Reyes has also starred on the TNT series “Claws” and the Lifetime series “Devious Maids” and has made appearances on the popular HBO shows “The Sopranos” and “Succession.”
The original run of “Scrubs” aired on NBC from 2001 to 2008, then ABC from 2009 to 2010.
Carla, who appeared in the first eight seasons of the show, was a key authority figure at Sacred Heart Hospital.

She also sparked a romance with Faison’s character, surgeon Christopher Turk. The co-workers got married and had a family.
Braff, who grew up in South Orange, returns as John “J.D.” Dorian, Turk’s constant companion and fellow doctor at the hospital.
Chalke is back as Elliot Reid, a doctor at the hospital who had a romance with J.D., who she ended up marrying. (They also had a kid.)
J.D., Turk and Elliot all started the series as interns, and Braff, Faison and Chalke are all producers on the revival series.
New arrived in July that ABC had greenlit the “Scrubs” return, which received a straight-to-series order for the 2025-2026 season.
Braff was the first cast member to sign on in May, followed by Faison and Chalke.
“Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence is coming back as executive producer of the revival. Aseem Batra and Tim Hobert, writers from the original show, are the showrunners.
In the new show, J.D. and Turk welcome a new crew of interns to the hospital.
The original “Scrubs” ended in 2010 after airing on two networks, starting with its 2001 debut on NBC.
In 2020, Braff and Faison started the “Scrubs” rewatch podcast “Fake Doctors, Real Friends, with Zach and Donald,” which they recently left in order to work on the new show.
