ⓘ Volvo Cars
Customers soon taking delivery of a new all-electric Volvo EX60 will find the Apple Music app on the large in-car display from the first startup, as the premium SUV ships with the service onboard.
Owners of older cars will receive the Apple Music streaming service through a simple over-the-air update. The software package is available for a wide range of models from the 2020 model year onward. Specifically, Volvo is bringing the update to the EX90, ES90, XC90, S90, V90, XC60, S60, V60, XC40, EX40, and EC40. The exact timing for when the feature appears on the display depends somewhat on the model and region.
After the update, users can stream more than 100 million songs ad-free, listen to live radio, or access curated playlists. While driving, the service can be controlled with a quick tap on the touchscreen or by voice command. Customers who do not already use the service can get a free three-month subscription through the Volvo Cars app. The offer is available to all eligible users until July 6, 2027. Existing music libraries can also be imported from other platforms.
The brand’s latest EVs, such as the EX60, EX90, and ES90, add a notable audio feature. In these models, the app supports Spatial Audio. The technology is based on Dolby Atmos and creates three-dimensional sound that places occupants in the middle of the audio. Because Volvo has also made significant improvements to noise insulation in these models, little outside noise enters the cabin. In combination with the optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system, the cockpit becomes a rolling concert hall. Alwin Bakkenes, head of global software engineering at Volvo Cars, says this deep integration delivers exactly the emotional listening experience artists intended.

Before becoming a journalist, I worked as a trained network technician in the planning and development of corporate networks, among other things, and as a fashion photographer based in Milan. As a former competitive athlete, my passion for technology and science is complemented by a passion for all kinds of outdoor sports. When it comes to specific subjects, I’m particularly interested in video, photography, smart homes, and wearables.
My fascination for technology goes back a long way to the Pentium II era. Modding, overclocking and treasuring computer hardware has since become an integral part of my life. As a student, I further developed a keen interest in mobile technologies that can make the stressful college life so much easier. After I fell in love with the creation of digital content while working in a marketing position, I now scour the web to bring you the most exciting topics in the world of tech. Outside the office, I’m particularly passionate about motorsports and mountain biking.
