Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater have officially called it quits.
“It’s amicable, they gave lots of time and careful consideration and decided to go their separate ways,” a source tells Us Weekly about the split. “They are still friends and very supportive of one another. They have been quietly broken up for several months.”
The insider adds that Grande, 32, “is doing great,” and has been “focused” on her Eternal Sunshine Tour and “upcoming new album.”
Grande and Slater met on the set of Wicked in 2023 while portraying Glinda and Boq, respectively, in the musical film. Both were married to other people at the time. Grande was wed to Dalton Gomez from 2021 to 2024, while Slater and wife Lily Jay tied the knot in 2018. The pair welcomed a son in August 2022, two years before calling it quits. (Grande was also briefly engaged to Pete Davidson in 2018.)
Us confirmed in July 2023 that Grande and Slater were dating amid their respective divorces. (Grande listed her date of separation from Gomez in February 2023 when she filed for divorce that September, and the proceedings were finalized in March 2024. Slater filed for divorce from Jay in July 2023, and they finalized the dissolution of their marriage in September 2024.)
Amid the headlines surrounding their romance, Grande and Slater maintained a low profile in public. Away from the spotlight, however, their relationship flourished.
“Things between Ariana and Ethan have grown more serious in the past few months, and they’re pretty much inseparable,” a source exclusively told Us in January 2024. “Ariana deeply cares for Ethan and absolutely sees a future with him. … [She] can’t wait to see how things continue to grow for them.”
In September 2024, Grande spoke about the critique of her relationship with Slater, telling Vanity Fair that the negativity “doesn’t get any easier.”
As for criticism of Slater, Grande insisted, “There couldn’t be a less accurate depiction of a human being. … No one on this earth tries harder or spreads themselves thinner to be there for the people that he loves and cares about. There is no one on this earth with a better heart.”
She also emphasized that she would “never go into certain details” about her and Slater’s relationship.
Slater, for his part, told GQ in October 2024 that his dynamic with Grande is “a really beautiful thing.”
As their connection deepened, a source told Us in December 2024 that the pair were “still in the honeymoon phase of pure bliss” more than a year into dating.
“Ariana is over the moon about Ethan,” the insider shared. “They have so much in common, which is something Ari never had with past relationships.”
A separate insider previously revealed that the pop star was “not rushing to get married again” despite her “healthy” relationship with Slater. “Ariana used to move really quickly in relationships and has learned to slow down,” the source explained.
Before their split, Slater couldn’t help but gush over his now-ex’s achievements when she earned an Oscar nomination for her performance as Glinda.
“I’m unbelievably proud of her,” Slater exclusively told Us at the 40th Artios Awards in New York City in February. “She worked so hard. She and Cynthia worked so unbelievably hard to not only make this movie and be the best versions of Glinda and Elphaba, but to promote it. They’re incredible. I’m unendingly proud.”
