Ariana Grande fueled rumors that she and ex-boyfriend Ricky Alvarez are dating again during her July 13 Eternal Sunshine Tour show in Brooklyn.
She changed her “Thank U, Next” lyric about him to “Wrote some songs about Ricky / We always find our way back.”
A source detailed their dynamic to People on July 7, just days after they were photographed spending Fourth of July weekend together.
Last night, Ariana Grande fueled her own dating rumors when she changed a lyric about ex-boyfriend Ricky Alvarez on “Thank U, Next” during her Eternal Sunshine Tour show in Brooklyn. She shifted a line in the original verse, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh,” to “Wrote some songs about Ricky / We always find our way back.”
Grande is relatively newly single. In June, news broke that she and Ethan Slater had quietly broken up “several months” ago. She and Alvarez, her backup dancer whom she originally dated from 2015 to 2016, were first seen getting lunch together on June 26, her birthday. A source told People that day, “They’ve been hanging out recently.”
During the July 4 weekend, they were photographed out at Whole Foods together in Boca Raton, Florida. On July 7, a source gave more detail on their relationship to People, though the insider didn’t describe them as dating at that point.
“She’s having a great time on tour. She loves having close friends join her for parts of the tour,” the source prefaced. “Ricky has always been a friend and confidant. She really trusts him. He has such great, positive energy, makes her laugh, and she enjoys spending time with him.”
The insider said Grande was “doing really well.”
“Her relationship with Ethan is 100 percent over,” the source added. “She’s focused on her tour and spending time with the people who have always been there for her. Ariana is having the best time reconnecting with fans and loves being onstage.”
Grande has tweaked her “Thank U, Next” lyric about Alvarez three times now during her tour. On her June 26 birthday show, she sang, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / I know he still got my back.”
At her concert two days earlier, Grande made her first tweak to the line, singing, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / And they still kinda slap.”
This marks Grande’s first rumored romance since her Ethan Slater breakup.
