Margot Robbie made quite the splash when she stepped out for the UK premiere of A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, her new film which she stars in alongside Colin Farrell.
The Barbie star looked sensational in a sheer, diamond-encrusted gown and her glamorous display has certainly got people talking. Not just about her dress, but also about the movie she was there to promote, with many people starting to wonder: what exactly is A Big Bold Beautiful Journey?
Wonder no more, Yahoo is here with everything you need to know about the film.

Directed by Kogonada, the film explores the journey that two strangers go on together after renting cars from a mysterious rental agency. Full of wonder and imagination, the movie finds David (Farrell) and Sarah (Robbie) exploring their past, present and future through a series of mysterious doorways and finding a connection with each other along the way.
It is a dreamscape fantasy romance that sees David and Sarah explore pivotal moments from their lives, from childhood to their adult lives, teaching them how to be better people as a result. And it touches on some important themes too, like grief and loss.
Speaking with Variety about the film, Robbie shared: “Even though it’s got a lot of darker things, it was a very light film. Everything felt very light. It’s magical, it’s beautiful, and it’s romantic, and it does deal with real-life things, [but] it felt like we were in a golden bubble every day, and I was dreading it ending. That was the only negative thing — I was scared of it ending.”
Farrell felt similarly about the project, adding: “It deals with grief and loss and sorrow and loneliness and all these very human things that we all contend with, but I’ve never used the word darkness in relation to this film. No.
“There’s no darkness in it. Those things in and of themselves aren’t dark. They may be painful, but they’re not dark experiences.”
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey has been described as a spiritual journey of sorts, and it helped the actors understand themselves better as well. In an interview with Empire, Robbie shared how she felt Sarah is the character she connects with most on a personal level.
“I saw a lot of things in Sarah, that I could see in myself — not necessarily good things,” she told the publication. “And so maybe it was a little more exposing to play a character like Sarah.”
The film certainly feels more like a personal odyssey for both actors, a far cry away from the blockbuster movies and supervillain turns they’ve done of late. But that doesn’t make the film any less worthy of attention. Sometimes, independent films can have just as much impact as blockbusters, if not more, and can be more meaningful too.
Kogonada, who has worked on Pachinko and After Yang, shared with EW that the film’s strength is in its touching, funny narrative that even includes a musical number for Farrell’s David: “I just couldn’t stop reading [the script when I first got it]. It was so funny, it had a real rhythm to it. And then when I got to the high school musical scene, I was like, ‘Oh, I have to make this.'”
Farrell told the publication: “It’s a really extraordinary script that is about some pretty heartbreaking things and events that take place in Margot’s character’s life and my character’s life. Told through this really forgiving, really hopeful lens. It’s really stunning.”
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey premieres in UK cinemas on Friday, 19 September.
