Ashley Tisdale is set to star in Netflix‘s Toxic Moms TV show alongside Ali Wong and another familiar face. The upcoming series is based on a viral essay Tisdale wrote earlier this year.
What do we know about the new Ashley Tisdale toxic mom TV show?
Former High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale will headline Netflix’s new dark comedy TV series, Toxic Moms, also starring Sabrina Jalees (Mating Season, Search Party), reports Deadline.
Written by Jalees, Toxic Moms is expected to be a half-hour comedy show. It will focus on a sleep-deprived woman, who’s just become a mother, crossing paths with a group of very wealthy mothers. Once she learns about the dark side of this group, the character tries to find a way out while struggling with isolation and longing for a community.
The dark comedy series is based on an original idea stemming from Tisdale’s personal experience. Back in January, she wrote a long essay, opening up about the toxic celebrity mom group, which she eventually left.
This elite group reportedly included renowned celebrity mothers such as Hilary Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor. “After the birth of my first daughter, I was craving connection with other mothers,” Tisdale wrote in the essay.

While she initially felt attached to all the group members, Tisdale eventually realized she wasn’t included in every plan discussed within the group. “I remember being left out of a couple of group hangs. And I knew about them because Instagram made sure it fed me every single photo and Instagram Story,” she added.
Toxic Moms will add to Netflix’s growing list of female-led comedy TV shows. Some of them include Running Point, Nobody Wants This, The Survival of the Thickest, and North of North.
Netflix’s Toxic Moms TV series has yet to receive an official release date window.
