“[Cormier’s] like my little brother. So no, no! I disagree with that portion of it,” Miyako says of that Toph-Aang piece.
As for the Zuko-Katara of it all, “She’s hated him for forever,” Miyako points out.
Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2, now streaming on Netflix, picks up after a significant time jump — to account for the actors being noticeably older than they were filming season 1 a few years ago. The Aang gang head to Ba Sing Se, the Earth Kingdom capital city where they meet the Secret Service of Earthbenders, the Dai Li, and the propaganda machine denying the existence of a Fire Nation war.
Some fans had theories around the timeline and events that may or may not be adapted from the animated series. “I think what people need to understand about our show is that our timeline is also a little bit different,” Miyako notes. “That means that we have to place certain events before or after they were in the animated series, which is probably what leads to the confusion.”

“The clip is also coming from the teaser trailer. So I think when the show comes out and you see more context, things start to align,” Kiawentiio adds.
To those wondering why the crew aren’t just flying around on Appa in the teasers, “I think there are things in our show that will make it make way more sense why we’re not just flying,” Cormier says. “Because if we could just fly, we would. There must be a reason we can’t. I just can’t talk about it.”
