‘Baby Reindeer’ Star Richard Gadd Looks Unrecognizable in Upcoming ‘Half Man’ originally appeared on Parade.
Richard Gadd, who played the wiry and anxious Donny Dunn in Netflix’s Baby Reindeer, looked completely unrecognizable in stills from his upcoming project Half Man, and fans can’t get over his new appearance.
Gadd, 36, had packed on pounds of muscle and was sporting a full beard for his new role in the HBO and BBC series. In one image shared on Wednesday, August 20, he wore a form-fitting white tank top and had visible tattoos on his arms as he sat across a table from his co-star Jamie Bell. Another picture showed the Edinburgh comedian sitting on the bed in what appeared to be a hospital room.
“Wow, Richard Gadd is seriously transforming for this role!” one person wrote on X.
Another added, “My man gained some muscle,” while a third social media user chimed in and said, “Dude got buff.”

The transformation comes on the heels of Gadd’s sudden rise, sparked by the runaway success of Baby Reindeer, and his role of Ruben appears to be a far cry from the character he based on himself seen in the Netflix series.
Earlier this year, Gadd spoke about the instant fame he garnered from Baby Reindeer and admitted that at times it felt overwhelming.
“There was a moment one of the tech [people] at Netflix told me, ‘The past couple of days you’ve been the most googled man in the world.’ I don’t know whether that’s true or not, but that level of visibility was quite scary,” he explained in an interview with Vanity Fair published on May 12. “I think it would have been scary if everything was positive, but it was positive and negative all at once, and that was very difficult to come to terms with. I’m probably still processing it to a certain degree, even if I can acknowledge and appreciate the fact that it’s calmed down a lot.”
Half Man is set to premiere in 2026.
