The Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe has shared some devastating family news this week as she revealed that her stepfather is battling “incurable stage 4 cancer.”
The 40-year-old reality star took to Instagram over the weekend to update fans on her stepdad Rob’s condition after he was diagnosed with cancer less than a year ago, and unfortunately, it spread to his stomach in spite of treatment.
She shared a series of photos of herself spending time with her family as she asked her 1.8 million followers to spread their love, thoughts, and prayers to her beloved stepfather.
She said that Rob, who is married to her mother Leslie and made special appearances during her hometown dates on both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, “means the world to me.”
The Nashville-native posted various photos of a day spent fishing on the lake with her stepdad during a recent trip back to Canada to visit her family.
Alongside the special photodump, Kaitlyn began, “About 8 months ago, I asked everyone to pray for my stepdad, Rob. I didn’t say why, but he was diagnosed with cancer and he was going into surgery to get it removed.
“Your prayers worked, and they had gotten it all,’ she continued. He then went back for a follow-up scan, and it has moved into his stomach. He is now battling an incurable stage 4 cancer,” she shared.
“We are all devastated. I do believe he will beat the timeline given because he’s a stubborn, strong warrior with a passion for life.
‘But I really do believe in the power of prayer, the power of manifestation, and the power of love. So, please send it all his way,’ Kaitlyn continued, before adding, “He means the world to me and our blended family.”
Kaitlyn concluded her tearful message, “It was really special to spend the last few days playing cards, eating home cooked meals, and just telling each other how much we cherish our families relationship. Time is so precious.”
The snaps that accompanied the emotional caption offered insight into those “last few days.” She included a snap of her stepfather in a casual outfit, standing in front of the idyllic view, as he was caught off guard in a candid snapshot.
Kaitlyn also included photos of herself sitting on the dock while fishing, as one of her family members presumably also took a photo of her when she wasn’t expecting it.
Elsewhere was a picture of her reading a book and relaxing by the lake during the day, and others were photos of her family members. She also included another photo of her stepfather sitting on a bench by himself in the shade and looking out at the view in her carosel post.
Fans were quick to inundate the star with kind messages. One user said, “You are always dealing with so much behind the scenes! Brave strong girl we adore you.”
“Time is so precious. Love you and your family so much and praying he finds relief, but most importantly, a cure. Wrapping you all up in giant hugs,” someone else commented.
A third user shared their own experience, penning, “Stage 4 fighter here since 2021. He’s got this.”
Another fan also appeared to reassure Kaitlyn with her own story, too, writing, “@kaitlynbristowe, 1.5 years ago, my uncle was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. They gave him 6 months to live. With continued treatment he continues to live his best life. There has also been improvements noticed. Hoping the same for your step-dad!”
