The hype surrounding Bad Bunny’s opening monologue on the Season 51 premiere of “Saturday Night Live” didn’t quite match Jimmy Kimmel’s return to late night, but after the performer had been attacked by the MAGA crowd in recent days, it was fair to wonder how he would handle it.
It turned out he used his monologue to celebrate his 2026 Super Bowl halftime role as a milestone for Latinos, while also mocking Fox News.
Speaking partly in Spanish, he highlighted the Latino community’s enduring contributions to the United States and quipped that critics have four months to learn the language. The performance triggered cheers from the live audience and polarized online reactions, with conservatives criticizing the Spanish elements and supporters viewing it as a pushback against xenophobia.
“I am doing the Super Bowl halftime show and I’m very happy and I think everybody’s happy about it,” he said. “Even Fox News.”
That led into a mashup of various Fox News and right-wing political personalities saying, “Bad Bunny is my favorite musician, and he should be the next President.”
Bad Bunny then added:
“But really, I’m very excited to be doing the Super Bowl and I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy.”
He then broke into Spanish (to some cheers) before adding, “And if you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.”
