Bad Bunny has made music history once again.
The Puerto Rican superstar scored a huge win at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, claiming the coveted Album of the Year prize for “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.” It marks the first time an all-Spanish-language album has ever won the Grammys’ top honor.
After presenter Harry Styles called Bad Bunny’s name, the artist was nearly moved to tears in his seat as he took in the news. During his acceptance, he dedicated the esteemed award to “all the people that had to leave their homeland — their country — to follow their dreams.”
Exclusively in Spanish, Bad Bunny said: “Thank God, thank you to the Academy, thank you to everyone who has believed in me throughout my career, to everyone who worked on this album, and thank you to my mom for giving birth to me in Puerto Rico, I love you.”
He added, “Puerto Rico, believe me when I say we are so much bigger than 100 x 35. And there’s nothing we can’t achieve.”
Earlier in the ceremony, Bad Bunny also picked up Grammys for Best Música Urbana Album and Best Global Music Performance.
He entered this year’s ceremony already making history, having become the first Spanish-language artist to earn nominations in three of the Big Four categories — Album, Song, and Record of the Year — in the same year. But this isn’t his first historic milestone with the Recording Academy.
Back in 2022, his “Un Verano Sin Ti” album became the first Spanish-language project ever nominated for Album of the Year. That record went on to win Best Urban Music Album at the 23rd annual Latin Grammy Awards.
The “DtMF” artist’s historic run continues next week when he headlines the Super Bowl LX halftime show as the first male Latino artist to do so solo — and performing entirely in Spanish, to the MAGA crowd’s dismay. Despite the backlash, Bad Bunny has teased that he plans to bring the whole world together as he takes over one of the biggest global stages during the Big Game.
