Predator: Badlands has released a new exclusive film ahead of the movie’s release on November 7th. In a single minute, the film reveals one of the most important nuances of the upcoming film. Apparently, the predators that have imprisoned Dek are his own family, and he has disgraced them in some way. Wanting to maintain their families’ honor, they have imprisoned him on an extremely unforgiving planet and even apparently try to kill him during the clip. However, there is probably much more to the clip than meets the eye.
Since the original 1987 film, there have been countless sequels, reboots, and spin-offs. Yet, this upcoming movie seems like it could be one of the most popular in the franchise since the Predator’s original silver screen debut. In a single film, the species is given a surprising amount of nuance. Just like Star Wars’ war-centric Mandalorians, the Predators are extremely dependent on their sense of honor. It even appears that their entire society revolves around it.
In the clip, Dek, the main character, is trapped and held at blade point by two Predators revealed to be his father and brother. They claim that he has dishonored the family in some way and will either kill him or likely leave him to die. Although his brother seems somewhat conflicted about this, his father apparently shows no issue with sacrificing his son to preserve the honor of the family.
While it has not been revealed what Dek did to dishonor his family, it could have been any number of things. Many fans think that he could have shown mercy, given that he is willing to collaborate with other species. However, there is really no telling what went down until the film initially releases. That said, it is very clear that his family wants nothing to do with him, at least until he can redeem himself.
Overall, the Predator franchise has always been incredibly popular, so it is more than likely that Predator: Badlands will find a lot of initial success. Yet, it seems that this might be an incredible film in its own merit. Nevertheless, fans will have to wait until the film releases before casting judgment. Thankfully, they don’t have long to wait at all since the film will air on November 12.
