Tuesday morning’s BAFTA nominations had a distinctly Oscar feel to them, with many of the main categories reflecting the U.S. Academy Awards nominations from last week.

There was a sprinkling of British independent flavor, however, with movies such as I Swear and The Ballad Of Wallis Island scoring well this morning.

There were few major snubs but a handful of minor surprises. BAFTA publishes longlists ahead of time so some of the drama is removed at that stage. Six nominees in the acting categories also lessens the chances for obvious snubs. That said, there was an element of divergence from the Academy, and some Brits broke through, which should be expected from the Brit votership. Wagner Moura’s absence from BAFTAs acting longlist remains one of the bigger surprises in the acting categories.
