Dinosaurs are stomping through the undergrowth in Bangkok – right in the middle of the glittering metropolis at theme park Jurassic World: The Experience.
It’s located at the open-air site Asiatique The Riverfront, featuring life-sized dinosaurs, swirling mist, eerie jungle sounds and the iconic gates of Isla Nublar.
Large parts of the latest blockbuster in the film series, “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” starring Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali in the lead roles, were filmed in Thailand’s wild natural landscapes.
The park opens as the film hits screens since its July release.
Brachiosaurus, Velociraptors and Indominus Rex
An approximately 60- to 90-minute tour through the new attraction takes visitors through several themed worlds: from a welcome aboard a “ship,” where pterosaurs swoop past the windows, to the arrival on Isla Nublar, and encounters with gently snorting herbivores (Brachiosaurus), spiky armoured dinosaurs (Ankylosaurus) and nervously twitching Velociraptors.
From an observation deck, visitors can also marvel at the fictional, genetically modified Indominus Rex from the film series, which growls and roars menacingly behind safety glass – until it suddenly escapes, triggering loud alarms. Fear not, there are no further spoilers ahead.
Convenient arrival by boat
Realistic animatronics, elaborate sets and film sound design make for awe and goosebumps. The new attraction spans a total of around 6,000 square metres at Asiatique, located directly on the famous Chao Phraya River.
You can get there by public transport and also conveniently arrive by boat or ferry from various departure points.
The park is open daily from 11 am (0400 GMT) to 10 pm with the last admission at 9 pm. Tickets are available online and on site, with prices starting at 769 baht ($23) on weekdays during the day. Discounted rates are available for children.
If you book a fixed time slot you can walk straight through the gate.
After the tour, you can always check out the rooftop theme restaurant Fossil & Flame with prehistoric menu poetry and drinks such as the Dino Sour or Jungle Punch Bowl.
Bangkok is one of five cities worldwide where visitors can immerse themselves in the full dinosaur experience – alongside London, Madrid, Singapore and Bogotá.
