Barack Obama recently admitted that he and his wife, Michelle Obama, went through a rough patch.
On Wednesday, September 24, the former President of the United States, 64, sat down for an interview with historian David Olusoga at the O2 Arena in London and revealed that his eight years in the Oval Office caused problems between him and the former First Lady, 61.
“I was digging myself out of the hole I found myself with Michelle,” he confessed, per The Daily Mail. “Now I’m at about level ground.”
In April, the A Promised Land author made similar remarks while speaking to Hamilton College President Steven Tepper, explaining that his time serving the country from 2009 to 2017 had caused marital struggles, according to The Hill.
“I was in a deep deficit with my wife,” he stated. “So I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things.”

The couple, who wed in 1992, has faced ongoing rumors about their union, especially after Barack attended President Donald Trump‘s presidential inauguration in January solo.
However, the pair have been living life to the fullest together recently, as they were spotted aboard Steven Spielberg’s superyacht in Portofino, Italy, earlier this week, per photos obtained by HOLA!
As Globe previously reported, in July, Barack appeared on an episode of Michelle’s IMO podcast co-hosted by Craig Robinson, and the political figure shared he had gotten back into his sweetheart’s good graces.
“Wait, you guys like each other?” Robinson, 63, jokingly asked when the two kissed.
“That’s the rumor mill,” Michelle quipped, to which Barack replied, “She took me back. It was touch and go for a while.”
