On their marriage in April 2011, she became the Duchess of Cambridge and since the death of Elizabeth II in Sept 2022, her official title has been the Princess of Wales.
The apology was made just days after the BBC apologised to Donald Trump for doctoring his speech in a Panorama documentary, which made it seem he had encouraged the storming of the Capitol on Jan 6 2021.
The US president has threatened to sue the BBC for up to $5bn.
In July 2022, the BBC apologised to the King, then Prince of Wales, Prince William, Prince Harry and their former nanny, Tiggy Legge-Bourke, for Martin Bashir’s 1995 Panorama interview with Diana, Princess of Wales.
BBC director-general Tim Davie, who recently announced his resignation, said the broadcaster would “never show the programme again” nor licence it to other broadcasters, apologising for how the late Princess was “deceived”.
The apology followed a scathing report by former master of the rolls Lord Dyson, who concluded the BBC had covered up “deceitful behaviour” used by Bashir to secure the headline-making interview with the Princess, criticising the methods used.
