The BBC has confirmed that it has pulled the plug on Pointless Celebrities, with the broadcaster having no plans for future series. The daytime version of the hit quiz will continue. Richard Osman first revealed the news on his podcast – adding the comment “RIP”.
The celebrity edition was hosted Alexander Armstrong alongside Richard Osman and was the primetime spin-off version of the general knowledge quiz in which contestants try to come up with the answers that nobody else could think of.
A BBC spokesperson told TV Zone: “Whilst there are currently no plans for any new celebrity editions this year, Pointless remains a much-loved programme for audiences on BBC One and iPlayer.”
Meanwhile, Michael Sheen has been confirmed as the host for the next series of BBC Two and BBC iPlayer’s House of Games (produced by Banijay UK’s Remarkable Entertainment). The announcement comes following Richard Osman’s decision to step down having presented the series for the past nine years.
Sheen’s signing marks the multi-award-winning actor’s debut as quiz show host. He will preside over the recording of 100 episodes that will be broadcast later this year.
Michael Sheen says: “Quite literally very large shoes to fill but as a huge fan of the show I’m incredibly excited to be able to move into the House and at long last see my silhouette on a fondue set.”
