In January 2026, BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Sounds will showcase a diverse range of some of the very best of live local music with The Blackstaff Sessions.
Throughout the month, programmes across the BBC Radio Ulster schedule will feature exclusive live performances recorded at the BBC’s Blackstaff Studios in Belfast in the latter half of 2025.
From established performers like Bronagh Gallagher to acclaimed newer artists such as Joshua Burnside, the performances will banish the January blues with a lively mix of indie, electronica, folk, soul, pop and rock.
Starting on Monday 5 January, the artists featured in The Blackstaff Session are: Soul singer and songwriter Bronagh Gallagher; singer/songwriter Janet Devlin; experimental folk singer Joshua Burnside; rock duo The Bonnevilles; Belfast-based singer/songwriter Rory Nellis; Londonderry pop four-piece Lavengro; Belfast pop artist Sophie French; jazz and soul artist Katharine Timoney; Belfast-based pop duo Dark Tropics; Northern Ireland and Ghanaian singer/songwriter Winnie Ama; rock singer/songwriter Sister Ghost; alt-folk outfit King Cedar; electronic pop artist Chubby Cat; indie-folk project Buí; Irish folk trio Amble; Dundalk singer-songwriter David Keenan; and Cork fiddler and bilingual singer Clare Sands.
Their performances will be played on Vinny & Cate (Mondays-Fridays at 10.30am), Connor Phillips (Mondays-Fridays at 3pm), Anne-Marie Wallace (Mondays-Thursdasys at 6pm), Ralph McLean (Mondays- Wednesdays at 8pm) and Stephen McCauley (Fridays at 7pm), Saturday With John Toal (Saturdays at 11am) and Taylor Johnson, Saturdays at 6pm).
