As usual, the star salaries list does not provide the complete picture of what top talent at the BBC earns.
Hundreds of big names are not listed because they are paid via production companies, rather than by the BBC directly. Ranganathan, Alex Jones, Lord Sugar, Rylan Clark, Bradley Walsh, Paddy McGuinness, Stacey Solomon, the judges on Strictly Come Dancing and the Dragons’ Den investors are among the celebrities whose earnings are not published.
While the campaign boasts that the BBC “thoroughly” verifies news, the corporation is facing a $10bn (£7.5bn) legal claim from Donald Trump, who claimed a Panorama documentary had defamed him because of an allegedly misleading edit of footage of one of his speeches.
Mr Trump is pressing on with the case, but has dismissed defamation claims against BBC Studios Distribution Limited and BBC Studios Productions Limited, the broadcaster’s commercial and production arms.
In November, The Telegraph revealed that Panorama had allegedly spliced separate parts of Mr Trump’s speech on Jan 6, 2021, in a way that wrongly suggested he had urged his supporters to “fight like hell” and storm the Capitol.
