B&B’s Lope Reunion Was for Beth, Not for Love

This week’s messiest move goes to Liam and Hope (especially Hope) on The Bold and the Beautiful. They’re getting back together for their daughter, Beth. Not because they love each other.

‘Lope’ Fans Get Their Wish

For months, fans have wondered if Hope (Annika Noelle) and Liam (Scott Clifton) would get back together. They spent a lot of time together, especially when Liam thought he was going to die.

Then, he found out that Grace (Cassandra Creech) was only using him to pay back her ex-husband’s gambling debts. That scene of Hope and Liam finding out the news was so powerful. We kind of wanted “Lope” back together.

So did their daughter, Beth (Jordyn Lynn Ariza), who wouldn’t stop bringing up the fact that their family was better when “mommy and daddy” were together. Even Liam had to sit Beth aside and assure her that they were still a family unit, no matter what happened.

Ultimately, Beth got her wish. It took Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) to realize that Hope wanted to go back to Liam because of their daughter. He told her to give their daughter what she wanted.

Why It’s Messy

First off, it was messy because Hope did to Carter what she did to Thomas (Matthew Atkinson). She stayed with him until she realized that she couldn’t fully commit to him. (B&B fans say Steffy was right — Hope used Thomas.)

It’s also messy because there’s no love story between the exes. The montage only included the hardest parts of their marriage, most of which involved nearly losing baby Beth.

Beth’s expectations played a role in Hope and Liam’s decision. A true reunion would involve their desires, attraction, and love for one another, followed by Beth’s wants.

Liam wants to have what Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Finn (Tanner Novlan) have with Hope and Beth. Sadly, there’s no passion in this storyline.

Ultimately, Liam and Hope chose their family. They didn’t choose love. While most couples stay together for the sake of their kids, it’s never a good idea, even for the sake of their own children.
