The establishment’s liquor store and car wash will remain open, according to its recent social media comments.
10 Beach bars to visit in Daytona Beach, NSB, Ormond, Flagler Beach
From rooftop daquiris to rum runners in the sand, here are 10 beach bars to check out from New Smyrna to Flagler Beach.
After three years on Daytona’s beachside, this ISB restaurant and entertainment venue is set to close at the end of the month.
Beaches Daytona, located just a few blocks from the iconic “World’s Most Famous Beach” sign, announced in a Tuesday morning Facebook post that Friday, Oct. 31, would mark the establishment’s final evening in business.
The casual dining and live music hub opened under local businessman Charles Duva in Spring 2022 at 301 E. International Speedway Blvd., where it’s since been recognized by many locals and snowbirds alike for breathing new life into an otherwise weathered downtown strip between the Halifax River and Atlantic Ocean.
“This street has been blighted for a long period,” Duva previously told The News-Journal, prior to the restaurant’s opening. “What I’m trying to do with this project is make this the lighter knot, the fire that starts the growth and change and development on this street so the World’s Most Famous Beach has a world’s most famous entrance,” he continued.
Embracing a one-stop-shop approach, the East ISB venue opened not only as a restaurant, where fried bologna sandwiches, calamari and house-made Key lime pie shared space under one roof, but as a liquor store (Booze Box), car wash (Waves Wash) and entertainment venue. From beloved local bands that kept the weekends alive to comedy and trivia that often filled the midweek lull, Beaches has continually strived to never let things grow dull — and that is part of its charm.
“We can’t thank you enough for all the love, laughter, and memories shared here,” Beaches’ Oct. 21 Facebook post reads. “Between now and then, we hope you’ll stop by as often as you can to celebrate with us one more time — grab your favorite drink, enjoy the music and help us make these final weeks one to remember,” it continues. “Cheers to every moment we’ve shared at Beaches!”
Customers react to Beaches’ upcoming closure
The establishment’s original post garnered more than 400 social interactions in its first few hours online, including at least 100 comments from disheartened regulars — some expressing their shock over the seemingly sudden decision, others recalling beloved memories of past visits.
“So sorry to see you guys close. Doc made such an improvement to the entrance to The World’s Most Famous Beach. It was an eyesore just like many of other buildings in the area,” Facebook user Roger Cook wrote. “Too bad it wasn’t appreciated more … I hope someone will buy it and turn it around. Restaurant and bar business is so tough nowadays,” his comment continued.
User Loretta Arthur echoed Cook’s statement, commenting, “I’m so deeply sorry to hear this news. The transformation Beaches brought to East International Speedway Boulevard was truly remarkable — a heartfelt effort that added so much vibrancy and promise to the area. Thank you for all you did to make it such a special and memorable place,” her comment continues. “Beaches will truly be missed.”
Despite the restaurant’s upcoming closure, the onsite liquor store and car wash will remain open, Beaches noted.
Beaches did not immediately respond to The News-Journal’s request for comment, though this story will be updated as further information becomes available. The restaurant is open 2 – 6 p.m. Monday – Wednesday, noon – 10 p.m. Thursday, noon – midnight Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday.
