Silence is not always golden and although Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have been mentioned in the Epstein Files, disappointingly we’ve not heard from them. When King Charles, presumably supported by Prince William, decided Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor should leave Royal Lodge sooner rather than later, the two daughters said nothing.
We all now know that when Beatrice was aged 21 and Eugenie, 19 – so adults able to make moral decisions of their own – they agreed to fly with their mum Sarah Ferguson to the US to meet Jeffery Epstein for lunch after he had just finished his prison sentence for procuring a 14-year-old girl for prostitution. We know the pair went because in an email the week after their return, Fergie wrote to Epstein: “In just one week, after your lunch, it seems the energy has lifted.
“I have never been more touched by a friends [sic] kindness than your compliment to me in front of my girls. Thank you Jeffrey for being the brother I have always wished for.”
The world has read that email, released in the Epstein Files by the US Department of Justice, along with many more detailing Fergie’s pleas to the US billionaire pervert for money.
Yet still, Eugenie and Beatrice have said nothing.
King Charles has – at least twice.
He first offered “profound concern” over his brother’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, while William and Kate are “focused on the victims” – yet we’ve not heard from Andrew himself.
Then last week, after Andrew’s arrest in Sandringham, on suspicion of misconduct in a public office – which the former Duke of York denies – King Charles spoke out again.
The King said: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office.
“What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation.”
The King added: “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.”
But still Andrew’s own immediate family – his daughters – have said nothing. Enough is enough.

Both Beatrice and Eugenie are married mother-of-twos, with their own careers that surely they want to insulate from all this unpleasantness. Their husbands have careers that they don’t want linked to Fergie and Andrew.
There are absolutely no allegations against either of the two princesses. Flying to see Epstein was unwise and morally questionable but that’s it.
Also they are suffering which is not nice to see – they are reportedly feeling “deeply distressed”, “duped”, “aghast” and “mortified” by what they have discovered about their parents’ fixation and almost subservience to Epstein.
So why not come out and say it? Eugenie has an anti-slavery charity and that has been silent about the Epstein Files too.
The nation has not shunned them yet and would back a statement expressing their disgust at Epstein, sympathy with his victims and horror at the contents of the Files.
The clock is ticking – there is still warmth out there for them but they need to say something.
