If you think you know all about the life and music of Tom Petty, hold that thought.
Veteran rock journalist Gillian G. Gaar is set to release a new biography on the music legend, who died in 2017 at age 66.
Due out November 4, Tom Petty: The Life and Music will shed a more thorough light on the rock icon by chronicling his life and career, with help from recordings, performances, accolades and more.
More specifically, Ghost Cult Magazine reports that author Gaar, 66, covers the following in his book:
Petty’s childhood in Florida and early band, Mudcrutch
All 13 studio albums, including those with The Heartbreakers and as a solo artist such as the breakouts Damn the Torpedoes and Wildflowers
ADVERTISEMENTHis greatest singles and radio hits, such as “American Girl,” “Don’t Do Me Like That,” and “Free Fallin’”
Relationships with notable rock figures such as Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Johnny Cash and Stevie Nicks
Legendary gigs, from his first SNL appearance to his 2004 performance with Prince, as well as the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and his Super Bowl halftime performance
With nearly 30 Billboard top-10 hits and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction — not to mention his best-selling studio albums — Petty remains a music staple nearly a decade after his passing.
Earlier this week, he was also making headlines since his estate has opened the vault to share a never-before-seen clip of Petty performing his hit song “You Don’t Know How It Feels” during 1995 rehearsals for his Dogs With Wings tour.
The special release celebrates the 30th anniversary of “Wildflowers,” Petty’s deeply personal album that he once called his favorite — and the one he was most proud of. The intimate footage offers fans a rare behind-the-scenes look at the musical genius at work.
The estate’s commitment to sharing these treasures certainly ensures that Tom Petty’s spirit and artistry will continue inspiring fans for years to come.
