SHREVPORT, La. – Netflix has confirmed that “Stranger Things” is now the platform’s most-watched series ever — topping 1.2 billion views worldwide. And one of the young faces appearing in the upcoming fifth season has ties to Northwest Louisiana.
Liam Askew, a Benton native, plays “Roger,” one of 12 children kidnapped by the season’s villain, Vecna. Despite only acting for a few years, Askew says landing a role on one of the biggest shows in the world still feels unreal.

“I was like, oh, “Stranger Things.” I know that show — it’s massive,” Askew said. “So I auditioned for it and got the role. It was so surreal … my agent told me I got the part, and I was just like, what?“
Askew and his parents recently relocated to New Orleans to support his acting opportunities. Because of strict production secrecy, he couldn’t tell anyone he had joined the cast.
That meant disappearing from school for a couple of months while filming — completing his work online and still managing to pass all his classes. He attended Providence Classical Academy in Bossier City.
The final episode of “Stranger Things” dropped last week. This is also the final season for the show.
