Check out the best new music from Aotearoa acts released between March 9th-15th below!

Vera Ellen (ft. Hemi Hemingway) – “When It’s Over”

“When It’s Over” is the second taste of Vera Ellen’s forthcoming album Heaven Knows What Time (due out May 1st). The new single features a striking guest turn from Ellen’s fellow Pōneke Wellington musician Hemi Hemingway. Ellen says she “knew the song needed a counterweight the moment the demo was finished” – and that voice had to be Hemingway.

Beth Elsden – “Losing You Slow”

Beth Elsden’s debut single moves through soft melodic phrasing before lifting into escalating vocal hooks, balancing restraint with intention, sitting inside dreamlike synth pop and quiet emotional pull. The track leads her debut EP (due out later this year) which is a direct result of her years living in Dunedin.

Borderline – “Watching It Burn”

“Watching It Burn” sees the genre-blurring quartet go back to their rock roots with a wall of sound that culminates in an epic sax solo, and proves why Borderline, barely out of their teens, are being tipped as ones to watch globally. “This is the Borderline track we want people to turn up loud and sing while driving with the roof down,” the band share.

Wet Denim – “Living Room”

Produced with songwriter, producer and guitarist out of Drax Project, Ben O’Leary, “Living Room” carries Wet Denim’s familiar indie-leaning sheen with catchy melody lines and emotive lyrics whilst leaning decisively into their rock foundations with propulsive rhythm and big guitars. The single takes the band confidently into their next chapter, embracing their rock influences more than ever and the maturing of their sound.
