Bewitchedstar Erin Murphy, 61, is opening up about the beloved show’s legacy and how she feels about its enduring fanbase.
In an October 2025 ReMind Magazine interview, Murphy, who famously portrayed Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) and Darrin Stephens’ (Dick York and Dick Sargent) magical daughter, Tabitha, discussed her time filming the series, which had an eight-season run until 1972. Murphy began playing Tabitha during its third season, which premiered in 1966, and remained on the cast until its final season, per IMDb. Murphy shared the role with her twin sister, Diane Murphy, in several Bewitched episodes, as reported by IMDb.
While speaking to ReMind, Murphy said she appreciates fans’ lasting devotion to the Bewitched. According to Murphy, a whole new generation has been introduced to the classic show, thanks to streaming services.
“They’re wonderful. They’re very supportive. Bewitched is back on TV in the United States on Hulu now (also on Roku and Antenna TV). Hulu just released all eight seasons recently. Fans say, ‘I watched the show with my grandma,’ and now they’re sharing it with their kids and grandkids,” said Murphy during the interview. “I don’t think I’ve ever had a negative reaction. They all love it and have a favorite episode and want to know what it was like. It’s overwhelmingly positive feedback.”
In addition, she said that fans will often have her sign niche memorabilia at Bewitched events.
“Fans bring all kinds of things for me to sign, a lot of memorabilia, like Tabitha dolls and Tabitha paper dolls. I was on the cover of maybe four Dell comic books and a board game. They keep releasing things, since it’s still on TV. People will bring things from other countries that they’ve gotten. There is an abundance of memorabilia to sign,” said Murphy to ReMind.

During the ReMind Magazine interview, Murphy theorized why Bewitched, which follows Samantha, a witch, living in the mortal world with her husband, has had such an impact. Murphy said the show “was done right,” with “great writing, great directing and just an amazing cast.”
In addition, she said she believes “it has held up very well.”
“Plus, it’s one of the shows that translates very well to other countries, because it’s so colorful and with the magic and all of that; we’re on in 100 countries still. There are places where Bewitched is part of the primetime lineup still, which is kind of amazing. But it’s because the show translates so well,” continued Murphy while speaking to the publication.

In a 2022 interview with Pop Culture, Murphy shared her thoughts about Montgomery, who died at the age of 62 in 1995. Murphy said her on-screen mother “was smart and hilarious and beautiful.” In addition, she said that she and Murphy “spent so much time together” during her formative years that she feels in “some ways [she is] more like Liz than like [her] own mom.”
“It was my first eight years of my life, I was on set basically,” said Murphy during the 2022 interview.
Murphy also said that she had a close bond with Montgomery’s children, Rebecca Asher, Bill Asher, and Robert Asher, whom she shared with her ex-husband, William Asher.
