Big Sean, Usher talk new Detroit Boys & Girls Club venture on 'GMA'

The two stars will celebrate the opening of their new facility on Tuesday.

Big Sean and Usher appeared together on Monday’s “Good Morning America” to talk about the opening of their new Detroit Entertainment Innovation Incubator, which is scheduled to open Tuesday inside Michigan Central.

The two stars spoke about the new $1 million production facility, which will be housed in the new Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan.

The project, which includes a virtual production studio, special effects lab, a creators’ lounge and more, follows a similar facility Usher opened at the Boys & Girls Club in Atlanta, “and I saw the opportunity for us to connect Detroit,” Usher said. “Here was an opportunity for us to get some economic mobility for young men and women here in Detroit.”

Big Sean, who has contributed four production studios to local Boys & Girls Club facilities since 2018, said contributing to Michigan Central was meaningful for him.

“What excited me about this particular project is that I used to ride past this train station that was abandoned every single day,” said Sean. “It’s just exciting to be a part of it, and to see it come to fruition.”

Partners on the project include Usher’s New Look, Big Sean’s Sean Anderson Foundation, Ilitch Sports + Entertainment and Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.

“Hopefully, some young entrepreneurs will come out of this incredible venture,” Usher said.

The project was first announced in December.
