BigXthaPlug has been arrested on the same day of his album release.
The 27-year-old rising rap superstar, whose legal name is Xavier Landum, released his third studio album “I Hope You’re Happy,” on Aug. 22, and was booked at 2:20 a.m. Friday morning in Dallas County, Texas, according to court records.
The “Largest” hitmaker was charged with marijuana possession of less than two ounces and unlawful possession of a firearm. His new album, “Hope You’re Happy,” features collaborations with Nashville country superstars Ella Langley, Jelly Roll, Luke Combs, Tucker Wetmore, Shaboozey, Thomas Rhett, Bailey Zimmerman and Darius Rucker.
USA TODAY has reached out to BigXthaPlug’s reps and the Dallas Police Department for comment.
BigXthaPlug stands for a portrait at The Tennessean in Nashville, Tennessee on July 24, 2025.
BigXThaPlug’s entry into Nashville’s music scene was unexpected, but surprisingly seamless. Though he initially pitched a country project as a joke, the idea quickly gained traction after artists like Jelly Roll publicly embraced the concept. Soon, Nashville’s top-tier songwriters and performers were welcoming him with open arms.
Despite being unfamiliar with the city’s traditional songwriting process, Landum found himself collaborating with reknowned songwriters and performers. He earned respect not just for his lyrical authenticity but for his willingness to embrace the genre’s slower, more deliberate creative rhythm.
Rather than arriving as an outsider trying to mimic country tropes, Landum brought his own Southern soul, rooted in Texas street culture and musical influences, and found common ground with Nashville’s artists. His songs, like “All The Way” and “Pray Hard,” blend country choruses with pop-rock energy and raw storytelling, proving that genre boundaries are increasingly fluid.
“I want to be an artist capable of conquering every style of music, regardless of genre,” he recently told The Tennessean. “Like how boxers work their way through multiple weight classes to be declared the best, I want to work the same way through rap, country, every genre that I can.”
BigXThaPlug talks Beyoncé featuring his song on tour: ‘I became a part of the Beyhive’
Last month, BigXthaPlug told USA TODAY about his breakthrough year after Beyoncé used his song “The Largest” as an interlude on her “Cowboy Carter” tour.
“It not only signifies what I’m doing, but it shows that I’m not the only one that is willing to do it,” he told USA TODAY. “It makes me feel good that there’s somebody out there that’s trying to push what I’m pushing.”
