BATAVIA, IL — The Block Party and Taste of Batavia are returning Aug. 31, but this year with an earlier start time.

Hosted by Batavia MainStreet, the end-of-summer event will take place from 3-8 p.m. at Peg Bond Center and on Houston Street, where a car show will run.

“Block Party and Taste of Batavia is one of the best ways to wrap up summer in our community,” Batavia MainStreet Assistant Director Kristen Desler said in a statement. “It’s a day to come together, enjoy amazing food and drinks from our downtown restaurants, and this year we’re thrilled to welcome new live music acts — Cheryl Rodey and The Gentlemen, a cover band joining us from Quincy, Illinois. We’re also starting an hour earlier, because we know people are always eager to get the party started sooner!”

Sturdy Shelter Brewing and Grainology BrewStillery will supply craft brews for the event, while multiple Batavia restaurants will serve food tastings:

  • Windmill Grille & Pizzeria
  • Sidecar Supper Club
  • Gammon Coach House
  • Pal Joey’s
  • Wilson Street Tavern
  • Fernando’s Street Kitchen
  • Thai Village

Farmers market favorites Tamalex, Q&A Beignet, Bella Rosa Cannoli and Cianti’s
Catering will also provide delectable bites.

In addition to the new live music acts, the Batavia Academy of Dance will perform. Plus, the Congregational Church of Batavia is sponsoring a family zone fitted with a bounce house and other activities.

It wouldn’t be the Block Party and Taste of Batavia without the Batavia Mother’s Club’s pie bake-off or the Wayback Wheels Car Show featuring classic and unique vehicles.

Registration, costing $10 per baker, is open for three categories of pie: fruit, non-fruit and youth (ages 14 and under). Pies can be dropped off at the Block Party between 3-3:30 p.m., with judging taking place from 3:45-4:30 p.m. Winners will be announced at 4:45 p.m.

The car show will operate from 3-7 p.m. Vehicles, which can register for $15 a car, can begin parking at 2 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for “People’s Choice” and “History on the Road.”

Admission for the Block Party and Taste of Batavia is free for kids and $5 — including a wristband for those 21 years and older — for adults.
