Over the course of Blue Bloods‘ 14-season run, Tom Selleck earned more than just the respect of his co-stars—he became a mentor, friend and leader on set. Cast members have frequently spoken about the influence he had behind the scenes, praising both his professionalism and the atmosphere he helped create during the show’s long run. Even after Blue Bloods came to an end, many of his former colleagues have made it clear that they would welcome the chance to work with him again.
Since Blue Bloods ended in 2024, Selleck has made no secret of the fact that he believed the series still had stories left to tell. While the franchise lives on through Boston Blue, which follows Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) as he begins a new chapter in Boston, Selleck has remained noncommittal about whether Frank Reagan will eventually make the jump to the spinoff. But whether he returns or not, his presence continues to loom large over the Blue Bloods universe. Over the years, cast members have spoken openly about his leadership, professionalism and friendship, while even some of the newer faces joining the franchise have expressed admiration for the actor. Abigail Hawk starred alongside Selleck as Detective Abigail Baker for the entirety of Blue Bloods. Often called Baker by Selleck’s character, the detective was the right-hand confidante to the commissioner for 14 years, always just around the corner. Woman’s World spoke with Hawk when Blue Bloods was coming to a close and she shared a tidbit about working with Selleck.
“I always thank Tom because he kept bringing me back and bringing me around, but I also contributed. The reason that he kept bringing me around was because I had something valuable to offer… I do bear responsibility for being here for 14 years.”
As the show’s lead, Selleck likely had some say in who he worked with and Hawk knows the actor is partly to thank for her long tenure on the show (that and her incredible talent!)
Gloria Reuben

Although Gloria Reuben stars on Boston Blue as Mae Silver, she actually has worked with Selleck several times in the past. Not only did she appear in two episodes of Blue Bloods, but the two played love interests in a TV movie series. “I always loved working with Tom,” Reuben shared. “We did the Jesse Stone movies, based on the books and I played his love interest in those. So, we have a whole history.”
Reuben and Selleck starred side-by-side in three Jesse Stone films: Jesse Stone: Innocents Lost (2011), Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt (2012) and Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise (2015). Reuben portrayed Thelma Gleffey, while Selleck starred in the title role.
As for wanting to work with him again? Reuben is ready, adding, “We gotta get him on Boston Blue. I mean, how fun would that be? That would be so iconic. I hope he wants to come on.”
Sonequa Martin-Green

Sonequa Martin-Green hasn’t shared the screen with Selleck yet, but she is hopeful that day might come. Martin-Green currently stars as Lena Silver on Boston Blue and she has shared her thoughts on having Selleck join the show to reprise his character.
“We’ve been talking about Mr. Selleck for a long time,” she said. “He is always getting asked and as Donnie [Wahlberg] always says, the door’s open. We would love to have him and we will make sure the story is just right because Tom is so adamant about the story, as he should be and as we all should be. I think it would be great if we can have him and I’m excited for whatever story it ends up being if he does come… I want everybody from Blue Bloods on this show, but it’d be nice to see Tom [Selleck].”
Maggie Lawson wants a Frank reprisal

Boston Blue star Maggie Lawson, who portrays Sarah Silver, knows exactly who she wants to make an appearance on the show. When asked which Blue Bloods star she would like to see, Lawson excitedly shared her response. “Oh, my goodness. I mean, I think we would all want to see Frank [Reagan] at some point, right?”
Donnie Wahlberg shares fond memories

Throughout Blue Bloods, Donnie Wahlberg, who starred as Danny Reagan, was someone who worked very closely with Selleck. At the initial screening for Boston Blue, Wahlberg shared a few fun memories of working with the actor. While discussing the dinner scenes in Blue Bloods, where the cast would have to sit several hours of the day and fake eat the delicious-looking food, Wahlberg shared Selleck’s fun trick.
“Bridget [Moynahan] would just move her potatoes around and everyone knows Tom [Selleck] would butter his roll for six hours.”
Wahlberg also shared what Selleck said when discussing the future of Blue Bloods. Before the show became a success, the cast would have conversations about whether it would have a long life. While Wahlberg had a feeling it would, Selleck hoped for the best.
“I just was chugging along in Blue Bloods, and I just always thought the show would be very successful,” Wahlberg shared. “Everyone would say, ‘What do you think? Is it gonna be successful? ‘And I’d be like, ‘Oh yeah, 10 years, no problem.’ And Tom would always say, ‘Oh, I hope you’re right.’” He then added, “I love that man.”
