Blumhouse has found its next big horror franchise.

Founded in 2000 by Jason Blum and Amy Israel, Blumhouse Productions has been heavily involved in some of the most iconic horror franchises of the past 25 years, including Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister, The Purge, M3GAN, The Black Phone, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and more.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, it has now been announced that Blumhouse has won a “multi-company bidding war” for the rights to adapt the Boom! Studios comic Something Is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera.

What are Blumhouse’s plans for Something Is Killing the Children?

Blumhouse plans to turn the comic into both a big-screen and small-screen franchise. A live-action feature film will be developed at the same time that the studio also works on an adult animated television series, the latter of which will be “shepherded by Tynion.”

Blum will produce the live-action movie alongside Stephen Christy and Tynion, while Shaun Sutton, Ryan Turek, Adam Yoelin, and Mette Norkjaer will serve as executive producers.

“It’s easy to see why audiences and critics alike have praised Something is Killing the Children,” Blum said in a statement. “James and Werther’s comic book series taps into our most primal fears, luring us into a fascinating world and introducing Erica Slaughter, the ass-kicking hero we all wish we had to fight the monsters that lurk in the dark.”

A description of the comic series reads, “In a sleepy town in the heart of America, children have started to die in horrific ways. The local police are mystified by the brutal murders, and frantic to catch the killer. But they refuse to believe reports of impossible creatures that lurk in the shadows snatching children and tearing them to pieces, especially since the only people who claim to have seen these so-called monsters are other children. Enter Erica Slaughter, a mysterious stranger who rides into town and claims she can solve their ‘monster’ problem. But can the townspeople trust this dangerous outsider with their children’s lives? And more importantly, can the children trust this strange adult with their secrets?”

No release dates for any of Blumhouse’s Something Is Killing the Children projects have been announced at this time.
