King Charles and Queen Camilla were pictured in an awkward faux pas during the first day of their US State Visit. The couple arrived in Washington, D.C. on Monday, with the King and Queen reuniting with President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump.
Shortly after their arrival, the couple were met by the sounds of the National Anthem – with fans taking to X to share one major thing they noticed. The couple were spotted standing behind a blacked-out vehicle, which blocked their view.
One fan wrote on X: “Why on earth is there a car blocking the view of the King and Queen during the national anthems? Bizarre American protocol faux pas at roughly the 2-minute mark of the trip.”
Many fans believe that it was for security reasons following an incident on Saturday where gunshots were fired near the main security screening area for the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Another fan: “This 100% for security reasons after what happened at the WHCD on Saturday.”
A third: “Would be for safety.”
Not in agreement, another fan commented: “That was very odd. For a second I wonder whether this was for security purposes given the recent incident, but I don’t think so. I think they messed up by having the car in place to soon lol.”
To mark the end of their first day in the US, the King, 77, and Queen, 78, were joined by 650 guests at a lavish garden party in Washington DC.
The event, which was held at the British Embassy, brought together a cross-section of politicians and officials to charity leaders and sporting stars, such as Olympic diver Tom Daley – who now lives in Los Angeles – and Esme Morgan, a Lionesses World Cup winning star who plays for Washington Spirit.
Their Majesties, who hosted the party, stepped out at the event just hours after arriving in the US.
