A performer will play more than 100 voices in 100 minutes in the ‘rockumentary’ BOOM YZ, coming to The ACT Arts Centre on Saturday, March 28.

BOOM YZ brings to life the first two decades of this century, and Rick Miller plays popular musicians, TV characters, movie clips, and generation-defining figures.

The beating heart of BOOM YZ is the coming-of-age story of Miller’s daughter. On a drive to university, she shares her hopes and anxieties with her father, as they try to bridge generation gaps, and connect Baby Boomers to their grandchildren. It’s billed as an “unforgettable, heartwarming theatrical experience, and a celebration of our shared humanity.”

BOOM YZ is part three of the “BOOM Trilogy” and covers the years 1996-2020. The ACT presented BOOM X in 2024 and BOOM in 2025. If you didn’t see those, no worries, as this show stands alone. You get to decide our future with an audience vote on the ending.

Through his daughter’s playlist of the hits of the 2000’s – from Les Miserables, Outkast, Lady Gaga to Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” all performed live onstage – a father learns to understand his daughter a little better.

Each show in the BOOM Trilogy documents 25 years, in chronological order, drawing connections between global events, cultural milestones, and personal stories, all performed live onstage by Miller.

He is the writer, director and performer, and the company is Kidoons & WYRD Productions, in association with Theatre Calgary and The 20K Collective.

The show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are available online at Mapleridge.ca
