The filming of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has taken over the city of Glasgow, Scotland, with fans posting videos of various scenes being filmed. While it’s likely a fun short-term opportunity to try to catch a glimpse of Tom Holland and company, it also means a plethora of road closures and detours.
Filming was expected to run from Aug. 1 through Aug. 15, and at least eight major roads will be closed, with additional side streets, etc., also likely off limits. For those who run into an issue with road closures, there’s some bad news, as The Herald first reported that Marvel had a request approved by the Glasgow City Council to extend filming beyond the 15th.
Details of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Extending Filming in Glasgow, Scotland
According to The Herald, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was approved to continue filming for 11 additional days, meaning they’re tentatively set to wrap on Aug. 26.
However, there is some good news for those in the area, as the report cites that after filming in the Merchant City area through Aug. 16, production will go to a different area (Hutchinson Street) through Aug. 18.
That will be followed by a pause in filming until Aug. 21, when filming continues in another new area, impacting Cochrane Street, John Street, South Frederick Street and Montrose Street through Aug. 26.
The 11-day extension is noteworthy, although not completely shocking, given the magnitude of the movie and some of the clips that have been revealed online. There hasn’t been much released about how filming has gone, but what’s apparent is that Marvel is going to make sure (as always) everything is perfect before they finish filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Tom Holland’s Latest Comments Spark Concern Among ‘Spider-Man’ Fans
While Holland remains hard at work on the latest addition to his run as Spider-Man, some fans were left a bit concerned after recent comments made by the actor.
Although Holland has played the popular superhero role since debuting in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War, he’s praised by many as the best Spider-Man actor ever. So, when he told GQ Magazine recently that he plans to take “more time off” in 2027, the talk surrounding his future in Spider-Man standalone movies sounded as though it could be in doubt.
“I feel really blessed to be at a point in my career where I can take time off, reset, and come back ready to go,” he says. “You can’t be in every movie, and you can’t do your best work when you’re burnt out. What I’ve learnt is that it’s important to set boundaries – to be mindful about overworking. I’ve got a slightly busy year next year, and then I’ll probably take a bit more time off in 2027. We’ll see.”
Fortunately, Holland didn’t specifically mention his future as Spider-Man. He’s also raved several times about how much the role means to him and how much he loves playing the superhero.
Some other positive news is that if the plan is for Holland to reprise the role of Spider-Man in the 2027 film Avengers: Secret Wars, it would entail filming in 2026, so that shouldn’t be impacted.
