An up-and-coming country music star has one or two things to celebrate this week.
Zach Top released his second studio album on August 29, and two of his hit tracks have just landed on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Good Times & Tan Lines” was sitting pretty at No. 75 on Thursday, September 11, while “South Of Sanity” was at No. 98.
The breakout singer-songwriter, 27, was born in Washington state and has seen success on the coveted Billboard charts before. In May of last year, his fan-favorite song “I Never Lie” peaked at No. 24.
Top dropped his highly anticipated sophomore album, Ain’t In It For My Health, on August 29. His debut studio album, Cold Beer & Country Music, was released on April 5, 2024. It was nominated for album of the year at the 59th annual CMA Awards, becoming the first debut album in a decade to receive such an honor, Billboard reports.
With his latest album, Top effectively expanded his classic country style and opened up to Billboard about the creative process behind following up his debut smash.
“You always have in the back of your mind the age-old tale of the sophomore slump,” he told the magazine. “:I wouldn’t say there were no nerves, but not a ton. When I put out that first record, I wasn’t doing anything that I didn’t love and that I didn’t think was entirely me. When I put that out and people loved it as much as they did, it was kind of a sigh of relief. It’s like, ‘Oh, well s–t,’ I can keep doing that. That’s just me.”
The breakout country star has made headlines in other favorable ways this summer. During a live performance last month, he revealed the gender of a couple’s baby in front of hundreds of thousands of people at the West Virginia State Fair.
